I’m taking Dan Ariely’s A Beginner’s Guide to Irrational Behavior on Coursera. The course is about the craziness in behavioral economics. Quick summary: You think you make rational choices about choices and purchases. You don’t.

Here’s the short link between irrational behavior and employee communications: Behavioral economics applies in scores of HR decisions that employees have to make. Good communication is more than fancy words and pretty pictures. It’s about motivating behaviors and understanding what makes employees tick. If your communicators aren’t talking to you about this as part of your communication strategy, be very worried.

You can check out Dan Ariely’s TED talk called Are We In Control of Our Own Decisions? here.
