Graphic Design Lesson for HR

Just stand back and marvel at that drawing. Leaves you speechless, doesn’t it?

Well, that came in an email I got yesterday about a 5-day leadership course. I don’t want to say who sent it to protect the innocent PowerPointer who made that model.

BUT WOW.

And here’s a lesson to everyone who ever puts together a chart that somehow is supposed to be the unifying theory of HR. First, it ain’t. Second, skip the triangles and overlapping circles. There’s trite. And then there’s laughable.

In fact, here’s a piece of advice for buyers of HR products and services: Don’t ever buy anything from someone who describes their stuff using triangles and circles. (Or their ugly cousin, the 3-legged stool.) Just don’t.

Even more importantly, don’t buy services from anyone who doesn’t have the good sense to get a graphic designer. A good graphic designer.

We’re in the design era. Good design sells. Good design says “we care about this product.” Good design is good communication. And trust me, good design isn’t done by the newest intern with a 2008 copy of PowerPoint.
