The Best Employees in the World

Fast food workers in my town aren’t from my town.

The kids here think working fast food isn’t good enough.

They don’t have to do minimum wage jobs.

Guess who does?

Kids from the city.

I stopped in at our Wendy’s the other night.

It was raining — a Nor’easter

“You got the wet job this evening,” I said to the young woman at the drive-up window.

“Cold and rainy,” she said. “And I come in from Philadelphia.”

That means she spends $11/day commuting to her job.

$11 and at least an hour each way.

To do a job that pays minimum wage.

I admire the living hell out of that.

Somehow I’m gonna find that young woman again.

And I’m gonna hire her.

For a lot more than minimum wage.

She’s one of the best employees in the world.
