Want a Job? Be Interesting

In the Spring when graduates’ parents give a shove;
In the Spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to his resume…sort of

It’s time for graduating students to look for jobs.

And although Tennyson wrote about young people having other distractions

Getting a job is high on the priority list.

Here’s some career advice for new grads:

Be interesting.

Grade point averages matter

For about 10 microseconds after you graduate.

But interesting lasts forever.

I’ve never hired anyone who wasn’t interesting.

Being smart isn’t good enough.

Although it’s nice.

But give me an enthusiastic, interesting person every time.

Now get to work.

Otherwise, Jeph Jacques observes:

Bachelor’s degrees make pretty good placemats if you get ‘em laminated.
