Workin’ at the Car Wash

Yesterday

I got my hair cut

My teeth cleaned

And my car washed.

Which one of those was the best experience?

Mind you

The woman who cuts my hair is detailed down to a gnat’s (and my) eyebrows.

The dentist is a friend of mine.

And it was the first time I ever went to that car wash.

You know.

Car wash.

Not a hair out of place.

Teeth a hue of pearly white.

Car gleaming.

Three guys.

Spent 20 minutes after my car came out of the tunnel.

Wiped every fleck of brake dust from my wheels.

Washed my windows inside and out.

Twice.

Vacuumed.

And made me laugh the whole time with their jokes.

And their joy in their work.

I told them it was the best car wash I ever had.

They beamed.

Shook my hand.

And I gave them the rest of the money in my pocket.

But they seemed to enjoy the kudos more.

They were proud.

Workin’ at the car wash.
