What Would You Be If You Could Be Anything You Wanted To?

Are you doing what you love? If not, why not? You do your best work when you love what you do. And unless you believe in reincarnation, this is the only life you have. It’s too short to spend it doing anything mediocre. Or hating what you do.

And if you’re not doing what you love, why not?

One of my favorite movies is The Natural. Pop Fisher and Roy Hobbs did what they loved. And Pop had a backup plan: If baseball didn’t work out, he was gonna buy a farm. I think about that sometimes, too.

Red and Pop Talk About Baseball and Farms in The Natural

Pop Fisher: I’d have walked away from baseball and I’d have bought a farm.

Roy Hobbs: Nothing like a farm. Nothing like being around animals, fixing things. There’s nothing like being in the field with the corn and the winter wheat. The greenest stuff you ever saw.

Pop: You know, my mother told me I ought to be a farmer.

Hobbs: My dad wanted me to be a baseball player.

Pop: You’re better than anyone I ever had. And you’re the best goddamned hitter I ever saw. Suit up.

Here’s the video (click here if you don’t see the movie below). It’s has some strong language in it. Use your headphones if you’re at work.
