Frozen Yogurt, Sushi and HR

See that? It’s a huge banner hanging over a storefront that’s soon to open in Philadelphia’s Suburban Station. The sign says “Frozen Yogurt & Sushi. Coming Soon! Capture the newest trend!”

Yeah, nothing goes together better than sushi and…frozen yogurt. Almost as good as aluminum foil and dental fillings. Or fingernails and chalk boards.

When you’re in HR, you have to defend against “the newest trend.” Go with what works. Go with what motivates people. Go with good business decisions.

And when some new HR Flavor of the Month touts the HR equivalent of sushi and yogurt — the newest trend! — tell them it looks like unagi no kimo with ice cream to you.
