HR Communication Lesson: Don’t Be Precious

in Communication

“Pluck your little flowers” is what one of my journalism professors used to say when he’d see writing that was just a little too cute.

Keep precious writing for you diary. When you’re 16. Otherwise, dump it like a bad boyfriend.

You know what I’m talking about. That just-so-darn-funny phrase that you show around before you publish. That photo in your presentation you have to ask others about before showing it. That pun you point out with a “See what I did there?” wink.

Get rid of them.

Save precious for moments. Save precious for gifts. Save precious for gems.

Precious doesn’t work in HR communication. And that’s the precious truth.
