HR Could Use a Little Inspiration

Rocky Votolato played at our shop on Saturday night. He’s my favorite singer-songwriter, and it was cool to have him do one of his living room shows for us. (I think it’s amazing to see a musician who sells out big venues play in front of a small group with just an acoustic guitar.)

Besides the fact that we love his music and play it almost every day at The Fractory, do you know why else we had him there? Inspiration.

I think we all can use a creative infusion from time to time. God knows, HR can use one. And music is one of the most powerful ways to covey thought and emotion.

As I sat there and listened to Rocky play, I thought a thought I have often: Why don’t companies use music to communicate with their employees? They use it in every ad they create on TV, but not internally. It’s a real loss. Like Rocky says in White Daisy Passing:

Please slow it down
There’s a secret magic past world
That you only notice when you’re looking back at it
And all I wanna do is turn around
