Filthy Dirty HR People

“Forget HR, let’s join the Army!” said my colleague, Jenn Cohen. She was slathered from head to toe in gooey mud. Our shoes were filled with water and gravel. We were hot, and an hour into a 10K, 30-obstacle adventure course in the MS Mud Run.

We were filthy, dirty HR people. And loving it.

Our white IFRACTAL: Make Dirt Better shirts were muddy tie-dyes. We’d run through water bogs. Climbed up a hundred-foot hill, only to slide back down a 60-degree mud slide on the other side on our backsides. Scaled “The Wall.” (Jenn coached every foot and handhold for me or I wouldn’t have made it.) Duck walked in dark, mucky tunnels. Did low crawls through the ooze. And braved the “Mine Fields.”

We had a long way to go. Cargo nets. “The English Channel.” Over-and-unders in a water pit between logs. We had to cover the distance. Besides the obstacles, there was a 10K race. It was a lot. I got tired. Jenn was amazing and climbed like a spider monkey over daunting obstacles. High in the air.

And we finished. Exhausted. And elated. Filthy, dirty HR people.

When’s the last time you got dirty in HR?
