Bad Design Equals Bad Communication

That poster was on my train today. It’s so bad I had to take a picture of it. Now, I’m sure those realtors are nice people…but. Really?

Look at that photo. How many of those Sears Portrait Studio pix have we seen this week? It reminds me of too many HR communication pieces with the sappy stock photos. Sad, sad, sad. And bad.

Then the writing. Unless you’re a crossword puzzle constructor, don’t write words vertically. Never works.

And…one font. Two fonts at most. Something dominant. Things aligned. In design, we call it CRAP — contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity. The kind of poster above is just crap.

I’m sorry, but if this is your idea of good design either in HR or in business, do yourself a favor: Can it. Bad design equals bad communication.
