Don’t Slip on a Banana Peel

Our job in HR is to watch out for the big things…and the little things, too. Like banana peels.

Sure, it’s easy to dismiss banana peels as cliches. But I saw one on the floor of my train this morning. (I’m still trying to figure out if that woman threw it down. She was eating breakfast out of a Tupperware bowl when I got on the train.)

Here are a few banana peels I can think of in HR. What else do you think can trip you up?

  • Payroll. You have no choice but to get it right every time.
  • Benefits. Hell hath no fury like a new mother scorned at the doctor’s office with an expired medical plan.
  • Communication. There’s never a good time to candy coat messages or obscure facts.

There are lots of banana peels in our business. Don’t slip.
