Top 10 Best Recruiting Websites

Top 10 Best Recruiting Websites

by Frank Roche on May 17, 2007

in KnowHR, Recruiting

We solicited input from a number of channels about the best recruiting websites, and the votes are in. So without further ado, we present KnowHR Blog’s Top 10 Best Recruiting Websites. (BTW: All the company names are links.)

Wow, I wanted to go to art school after I looked at Pixar’s career site. Here’s the header from their site. I think it says it all.

Hey, doesn’t Google win everything? Um, yeah, but it’s because they’re so good. Their lead question, “Can one conversation change the world?”, leads to a wealth of information. My favorite part is the set of videos about Working at Google.

Edward Jones
Financial services company, Edward Jones, leads with “What’s the right career for you?” That kind of guidance helps job seekers to explore three major job categories. Their Meet Our People section reflects a commonality among the best recruiting sites: real people work in these companies.

Target Corporation
Target’s careers slogan is “See Yourself Here.” This site makes it easy for you to see yourself in a host of positions, from hourly store positions to MBA rotations to executive management. Their myTotalRewards section is one of the most comprehensive and crisply-written benefits overviews in corporate recruiting. I also like their See Yourself Here approach.

Campbell Soup Company
Did you do something good for lunch today? Campbell’s (I remember soup!) is a multinational, with diverse product lines like Campbell’s Soup, Godiva Chocolates, and Pepperidge Farm Cookies, among others. Their career path section features real Campbell’s employees (note a theme here?) and the story of how they moved along in the company.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car
Enterprise has the most successful college recruiting program in the U.S. And who could argue with what Business Week said about them: One of the top five places to launch a career. Their tagline, “It’s running a business…not doing a job” is very compelling. So is the video of Andy Taylor, who started out as a management trainee and became Chairman and CEO.

Whole Foods Market
Whole Foods. Whole People. Whole Planet. Under the Why Work Here? section of their site, Whole Foods Market says their mission includes “Supporting Team Member happiness and excellence.” Their career paths graphics tell a powerful story. One example is shown here:
Whole Foods

It’s funny how we can sometimes forget to think about Microsoft. It’s one of those “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded” jokes. You can meet lots of Microsofties on the career page of one of Fortune’s 100 Best Places to Work. They tell the story.

Leo Burnett
This is simply one of the coolest websites ever by one of the leading ad agencies. I’m not even going to send you directly to their careers section because using the Black Pencil is part of the experience. And for any of you who have seen “When I Take My Name Off the Door,” you’ll know that the Leo Burnett culture precedes its website.

Johnson & Johnson
J&J’s “Small company environment. Big company impact.” is one of the great recruiting slogans. They back it up with lots of examples of how their Our Credo Values are put into action. This is one of the very few Flash sites on our list. Check out the interactivity on the Our Credo Values flower.

That’s the List of the Top 10 Best Recruiting Websites
That’s our list. There are thousands of recruiting and career sites out there. We did our best with the help of lots of KnowHR Blog readers, input from a survey we conducted on Mechanical Turk, and some good old-fashioned legwork (okay, internet searches). I personally looked at the careers sites of every company in the Fortune 500. I looked at some small companies and private ones. But this is our list for 2007. We’ll keep looking. Happy recruiting!
